It’s no secret, our mouths tell us a lot about our overall health. Red gums, mouth cavities, and receding gum lines aren’t just annoying—they can lead to or be signs of larger health issues. That’s why it’s important to stay on top of oral hygiene with regular brushing using high-quality toothpaste, as well as flossing and oil pulling. But not all toothpastes are created equal. The majority of drugstore toothpastes are formulated with a host of yucky chemicals—including detergents, artificial sweeteners, and antibacterial agents—that are linked to unhealthy side effects. Which is why we decided to create our own natural, effective formula!
Heads up: we’re about to geek out with some scientific intel on our toothpaste ingredients. But trust us, you’ll appreciate knowing how our Coconut Toothpaste in Minty Charcoal and Minty Coco work without conventional sulfates, fluoride, and artificial sweeteners.
Antimicrobial Coconut Oil
To whiten teeth, many toothpastes use hydrogen peroxide, but—surprise, surprise—we use organic coconut oil in our formulas. Not only is coconut oil more natural, it also has zero side effects—unlike hydrogen peroxide, which is known to cause increased tooth sensitivity and chemical burns around the gums. Plus, coconut oil contains highly effective antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, which help to gently rid your mouth of toxins without the enamel-destroying abrasives in some whiteners.
Cavity-Fighting Hydroxyapatite
Kopari toothpaste is formulated with nano medical hydroxyapatite, which we responsibly source from Italy. Similar to fluoride, hydroxyapatite is a mineral that fights cavities by penetrating tooth enamel and restoring lost calcium and phosphate to repair microscopic surface cracks. It also grabs onto and removes plaque and bad bacteria from the mouth, especially periodontal pathogens like gingivalis and candida. But unlike fluoride, hydroxyapatite is a naturally occurring material found in our own bodies, which means its biocompatible and safe if you (or small kiddos) accidentally swallow it. It’s so effective, Japan’s oral-health market has been using hydroxyapatite as its primary anti-cavity ingredient for years. Other awesome benefits include whiter teeth and reduced tooth sensitivity.
Charcoal as a Whitener
If you’re an avid fan of coffee, tea or red wine, you’re looking for a toothpaste ingredient that can crank it up a notch in the stain department. Enter activated charcoal. Not the kind you use in your barbecue, because that would be gross. This is a fine-milled black powder that is activated in super-high heat, which not only removes any unwanted harmful substances but creates a negative electrical charge to attract and trap positive-charged toxins in its porous structure. The bottom line: activated charcoal effectively removes stain-causing debris and bacteria without any side effects.
Peppermint Fresh
Both of our toothpastes are formulated with peppermint oil, which is a potent natural antiseptic in the fight against stinky breath. Peppermint oil’s antibacterial and antimicrobial properties neutralize odor-causing bacteria and plaque, while its strong flavor leaves your mouth tasting clean and mega-minty fresh.
