FAQs Answered By Professional Tanning Artists
What is the best way to prep your skin before applying a Gradual Tanning Mousse or Gradual Tanning Face Serum?
For a flawless tan, start with a clean canvas. Exfoliate and shave (if desired) before applying. Avoid moisturizing your face and body beforehand to ensure optimal absorption.
What do these products smell like? I typically don’t like the smell of self tanners.
We don't like smelly self-tanners, either! Our Gradual Self-Tanning Body Mousse is infused with a juicy guava scent, so you will no longer have an unpleasant smell while your tan developsnor does it leave a lingering odor. Our Gradual Self-Tanning Face Serum is fragrance-free.
What’s the best method for applying tanning products to tricky areas like elbows, knees, and ankles?
Tanning products tend to overdevelop on dryer patches of skin located at the elbows, knees, and ankles. If you have dry skin, it is recommended to apply a small amount of lotion to these areas before applying a tanning product.
How often should I reapply the product to maintain my tan without over-tanning?
Our Gradual Self-Tanners are buildable, so you can apply daily until you reach your desired color. Tanning experts suggest to wait 1 week - 10 days to restart the process. It is best to fully exfoliate your skin and make sure it is free of product before applying more to avoid patchiness and overtanning.
How do I prevent the tan from fading unevenly or becoming patchy over time?
Once your tan has fully developed and you have rinsed off, moisturize daily to ensure your tan stays even and fades gradually. Avoid using scalding hot water in the shower and opt for lukewarm water instead. Avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga, or any activities involving excessive heat. Avoiding tight clothing like leggings or sports bras can also help your tan stay even.
Can I work out or sweat after applying gradual tanning products, and if so, how long should I wait?
While your tan is setting, wear loose clothes without tight waistbands and avoid leggings. Wait at least 24 hours to work up a sweat or engage in intense activities; avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga, or any activities involving excessive heat.
What are the biggest “don'ts” when using gradual tanning mousse and face serum?
Do:
Use a tanning mitt and avoid getting tanning solutions on your hands, as it will look unnatural. Having someone help you with the application is even better.
Apply tanning product in between the fingers and toes to ensure an all-over, even application.
Let the entire coat of tanner dry before applying a second layer.
Don't:
Get your skin wet while your tan is setting, for at least 8 hours. When you shower, do not use hot water. Use lukewarm water instead.
Do not use soap, body washes or shampoo for your first shower. This allows the tan to continue developing even when it is rinsed off.
Apply tanner directly on your underarms, knees, elbows and ankles. Instead use leftover tanner from the mitt to go over these areas lightly and gradually to avoid over-developing.
Saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga, or any activities involving excessive heat.
Simple Steps for a Salon-Quality Bronze

2
Step 2
Using circular motions, massage evenly over clean, exfoliated skin.
3
Step 3
For best results, avoid contact with water or perspiration for at least 8 hours as the tan develops. Once your tan has developed, use a daily moisturizer to maintain your glow.

The best self tan I’ve used
I have used many self tanners and this is by far the best. I find the mousse much easier to apply and once it dries, it’s not sticky. It works quick and the color is great! My favorite thing about it is the scent. It actually smells good! So much better than anything else on the market!
