What the Heck is Oil Pulling?

What the Heck is Oil Pulling?

In case you haven't heard the good news, we are so excited to welcome our launch of Coconut Oil Pullers into our new Personal Care Line! Haven't heard of oil pulling before? No worries, that's why we're here! Oil pulling, or as we like to call it, the queen of oral hygiene, is an ancient Ayurvedic practice of swishing coconut oil in the mouth to clean and detoxify teeth and gums. By swishing for 5-15 minutes every day before brushing, you'll treat your mouth to fresher breath, gorgeous gums, and whiter teeth. Who could say no to that?!

To give you a little more inside scoop on our Coconut Oil Pullers, we asked our friend Remi Ishizuka to share her experience with you all!

Remi, do you mind introducing yourself to our readers?

Hi, my name is Remi Ishizuka! I’m a health and fitness blogger from Los Angeles and I love being able to share my day to day routine, tips and challenges via my Instagram and blog! I love being able to connect with like minded women and utilizing the community to help encourage each other to be the best version of ourselves through taking care of our bodies and practicing lots of self care.

How long have you been using Kopari? What is your favorite product(s) and why?

Whew! I’ve been a long time fan of Kopari- I want to say it’s been 2 years or more! I have 2 favorite products. The Coconut Body Glow is amazing for an immediate healthy glowy skin effect. It has naturals pearlescent minerals in it and works wonders for shoots! I put some on the tops of my shoulders and legs and it gives me a gorgeous glow in front of the camera.

I’m also a recent fan of the NEW Coconut Oil Pullers which I’ll explain more in detail below!

Prior to Kopari had you ever heard or tried oil pulling?

I had not! I was always hesitant to try it but I’ve heard so many great things. I’m all about oral hygiene and taking care of my teeth. I have had 30+ cavities ( I wasn’t blessed with strong teeth genes unfortunately ) so when I saw how convenient the single serve packs of Kopari oil pullers are, I thought why not give it a try and see how it goes. I love that I am able to take them everywhere with me, especially when I go to the gym or on weekend trips.

You can read about my experience with Kopari's 28 Day Oil Pulling Challenge below!

Remi Ishizuka's 28 Day Challenge Log:

Day 1

Please describe your experience oil pulling:

    • The very first time I tried it and squeezed it into my mouth, the texture felt strange and gross! I swished it around for as long as I could but ended up spitting it out 2 minutes later. It wasn’t until 3-4 days that I slowly got used to the texture and learned to find ways to distract myself - making it a lot easier to last longer! Also it helps that the flavors taste good!

Day 14

Please describe your experience oil pulling from the last 2 week:

    • The last 2 weeks I was already getting used to the routine of oil pulling right when I woke up. 15 minutes came easy and I would use that time to get ready for the day or make breakfast. I started to notice how clean my mouth felt right afterwards and I loved that it helped get rid of morning breath too. I actually found myself not needing to use mouthwash during this time. My teeth were shinier and my gums have more healthy pink glow. It wasn’t until I put my progress pictures side by side that I realized my teeth had gotten whiter. I was really shocked.

Day 28

Congrats, you have completed the 28 day challenge! Please describe your month and what you have learned or noticed about your mouth and oil pulling:

  • Yes! I’m soooo happy I took on this challenge and pushed through the beginning when it didn’t feel so natural. Oil pulling is now a natural beauty routine that I’m proud to say works and I don’t see myself going back.

Thanks so much for sharing Remi! Any last helpful tips or tricks you'd like to leave our readers with?
One tip that I have is to warm up the packet with your hand so it’s not in a solid state when you squeeze it into your mouth : ) I guess this would only apply in the winter, but it makes it easier to swish around and gives it a better texture over all.
